Lore24 Mar 16: Self-Sailing Ships

The creation of self-sailing ships is a massive undertaking, consuming vast amounts of resources and requiring an exceptional command of the arcane arts. For this reason only a handful of these boats were ever made, and only by the most powerful of Sorcerer-Kings. With the coming of the Invaders most were lost or destroyed. The remaining ships by name are:

The Glory of the Morning Sun, the Reptilian Pharaoh's personal vessel. It’s the largest self-driving ship to survive, with two rows of enchanted oars propelling it forward.

The Blessing of Sem, a small, quick boat designed not for the seas, but for rivers. It was almost destroyed in the Satnak Uprising, and is now being repaired in Nashat-Ippur.

The Flame of Atarash was the pride of the fleet of the Medenean orcs. Though it has only one row of oars, it can turn faster than any other ship, and it has a special forecastle which allows sorcerers to channel the magic of flames, even if they would otherwise be incapable of doing so. It has been captured by the invaders, and can periodically be seen attacking coastal settlements.

 In the far northwest, in the lands of Caeledor, the land overflows with tin. While the frequent storms make it extremely difficult to sail to the island, it is also a very lucrative endeavor, since the tin brought from here can be used to make the highest quality bronze , when combined with an appropriately good grade of copper. A large boatload of the stuff can make a person rich enough to never have to work again in their life, and even just a few ingots can fetch a nice price on the many markets of the southern empires. 2025 Jun 3: The Eiridian Clam

 The Eiridian Clam is a rather average merchant vessel sailing the seas. Previously most of its business was coming from ferrying tin from Caeledor all the way around the mainland to the various empires of the Inner Sea. However, with the political instability in Caeledor and the threat of the Invaders plundering sea trade, the crew was forced to run less ambitious trading routes, where their lack of familiarity, and the frequent raids caused the enterprise to slowly run out of money. The ship is currently anchored in the harbor of Ak-Setresh, a city on the northern coast of the empire of the Reptilians .  The captain of the Clam is a morose orc named Telemakhos, who is all too aware that he cannot afford to buy cargo anymore, and is desperately looking for either a patron, or someone rich that might hire his ship and crew. 2025 Mar 31: Old Man Death

  Old Man Death is the colloquial name of an huge and ancient dragon that lives near the eastern side of the mines of Caeledor . While the old beast is quite temperamental, he has been known to on occasion help the locals in exchange for vast amounts of gold and iron. This help comes usually in the form of him sniffing around for new tin deposits (he boasts that his nose can smell all sorts of metals, and judging by the fact that he can tell the grade and purity of metals offered to him without even looking), but he sometimes lets humans use his fire for melting metal. On at least one occasion he even used his gigantic claws to dig around for tin, but that came at such a gigantic price, that no.one has attempted to ask such a thing from him ever again.  Of course dealing with a dragon is never easy, but especially one as old and bad-tempered as Old Man Death.
