2025 May 13: Blood Screamers

Blood Screamers are the lowest form of demons , and are generally very little use to sorcerers, as their only two talents are making a hellish noise and biting things and people. They generally look like red lumps of flesh with eyes, limbs and mouths haphazardly distributed on the surface. Some are even incapable of moving, or can only manage a slow crawl of a pathetic flop. They are quite dumb and all in all pathetic. One could almost pity them if they didn't scream constantly and didn't try to bite anything and anyone they can reach.  According to legend, they were once powerful demons, whose name would strike fear even into the hearts of the gods, so the gods came up with a plan: during the night, they hacked these mighty demons to pieces, and scattered the pieces all over the world, and the Underworld , and the in-between-places, so that their fearsome enemies could never reassemble themselves. This has mostly worked, though there have been recorded cases of several Blood...

2025: Apr 13: The Ivory Throne

The Ivory Throne is the only thing that remains of the Lost City of Itim-Nir. It is slightly too large for any creature that builds cities, and it was carved from a single piece of ivory, though no-one knows where such a gigantic piece could have been found. It is said, that once it was decorated with murals of such blasphemous nature, that the Sorcerer-King of Urnak, who was the first to possess it after it was taken from Itim-Nir, had them sanded off and forbade anyone who saw them from ever telling a single soul about them. The Throne bears a strange and cruel enchantment. Anyone who sits on it, can sacrifice some of their blood to commune with the demon trapped inside the ivory. When asked for advice on any matters of state, the demon will suggest two mutually exclusive alternatives. One will lead to the state in question flourishing, but will cause the person implementing it to be hated by their subjects. The other one makes the ruler who implements it beloved, but will cause...

2025 Apr 5: Corpse-demons

Image
Corpse-demons are incorporeal entities that can possess the bodies of the dead. The possessed corpses then seek out the living, usually the family of the deceased, to torment and ultimately kill them. The corpse-demon has access to the memories and voice of the person whose corpse it's wearing, but anyone speaking to it immediately notices that they are talking to an unnatural entity, an alien intelligence trying to imitate a mortal. Unfortunately those stricken by grief don't always listen to the nagging feeling of wrongness, and sometimes hesitate to destroy the creature. Once a corpse is possessed, it becomes almost impossible to destroy. Even if hacked to bits, it slowly beings to reassemble itself, and in a few days it will become whole once again. Burning the entire is one way to get rid of it for good, but that is easier said than done, as human corpses take quite a long time to burn, and the corpse-demon will be resisting and trying to escape the flames the whole time...

2025 Apr 3: The Weaver of Five Dooms

The Weaver of Five Dooms is a spider demon who lives in the mines of Caeledor. Due to the services she performed to the gods, she was allowed to decide the fates of five mortals of her choosing. Obviously she chose the five greatest heroes she knew about, and has decided the most humiliating deaths for each of them. However she has a problem: Conn, the fourth hero has escaped her clutches, and now wanders the world, his destiny unfulfilled.  The Weaver of the Five Dooms looks like a giant black spider, with multiple animal skeletons for heads, the eye sockets of which burn with ghostly purple flames. She can stand more than two meters tall, and has the bodies of her previous three victims rigged up like marionettes with her silk threads, making a confrontation with her quite dangerous (the bodies of the heroes still have their fabled magical items, and Weaver knows how to activate them). The one weakness of this setup is that if someone spots the very fine threads she uses to...

2025 Mar 29: Buried in the Deep

One of the easiest ways to deal with a demon or malevolent spirit is to trap it in an incantation bowl and bury it in the ground. However that is not not the only way evil can get buried underground. Powerful sorcerers can trap various entities in other items (usually statues of the entity in question), or cursed items can get buried deliberately. Sometimes these buried dangers are older than anyone can remember, and indeed some are even said to have been left behind by Those Who Came Before .  Needless to say, this makes mining, sapping, or digging any kind of tunnel or even just a particularly deep ditch potentially quite dangerous, and usually before starting such works, it is customary to perform animal (sometimes even human or other sentient creature) sacrifice, both to seek the help of the more benevolent gods in protecting the diggers from these dangers, but also to the buried things themselves, in order to placate them. The other common way to mitigate these dangers ...

2025 Mar 28: Incantation Bowls

Image
Incantation bowls are a common magic item sold for relatively cheap in most markets. As the name suggests, they are simple bowls with written incantations on their inner surface. They are used to trap demons  and other spirits by slapping the bowl on top of the creature. Unless there is a large gap between the bowl and the ground, the demon or spirit cannot leave.  Incantation bowls come in different sizes and can be made from various materials, depending on the creature they are meant to trap. Larger entities obviously require larger bowls, though it must be noted that only the entity's original size counts for trapping purposes. Spirits or demons who have shapeshifted into larger sizes will shrink down to their original size when they come into contact with the bowl. Stronger entities require stronger incantations, which require the bowl to be made out of different materials than the standard clay or wooden bowls.  Incantation bowls can be made for general use, ...

Lore24 Mar 21: An-Kerrak

*Content warning for depression and suicide* The an-kerrak are a group of demons that specialize in fostering regrets, and driving people to suicide. Their appearance varies greatly, but they can and will turn invisible, stalking their chosen prey, slowly poisoning their thoughts with doubts, fanning the flames of their self-hatred, and making them feel miserable. In the more advanced stages of haunting they begin to talk telepathically to their victim, trying to convince them that even the things they did well were somehow flawed, that everyone secretly hates them, especially their close friends and family who only pretend to like them, and that they are better off dead. In the end the an-kerrak sits on the shoulder of the victim, literally weighing them down with their magic, ever egging them on to take their own life. Their preferred method is jumping off from high places, but hanging oneself of drowning in turbulent waters is also popular. They urge their victims to avoid ending...

Lore24 Mar 20: The Lord of Brass

The Lord of Brass is one of the most feared demons in the world. In fact his ability to do harm is so great, that the gods wove new magic into the world to stop him from taking a physical form in it. Now the only way for him to influence the world is if a mortal willingly offers their body for him to inhabit. This obviously doesn’t happen often, but desperate people with nothing to lose sometimes decide to take everyone else down with them and let the Lord of Brass lose on the world. The Lord of Brass has free reign over the flesh offered to him, so technically he can look however he wants to, but usually he takes the form of a gigantic brass scorpion with a humanoid torso where the head would be. The Lord of Brass is completely immune to fire, and no weapon made from copper or any copper alloy (including bronze) can ever harm him. His gaze can turn his foes into brass statues, and his breath causes those nearby to fall ill, and later die while vomiting blood. His skin is also made ...

Lore24 Mar 2: How Gods, Spirits, and Demons Came to Differ

After Gar was dismembered, the powerful beings who took part in the creation of the world came to be known as gods (and goddesses and everything in-between). Lots of other beings saw, that the world was a nice place to live, so they made their abode in places large and small. These became known as spirits. When the gods were satisfied with their creation, they made mortals to finish the rough edges: dig tunnels for irrigation, build cities and roads, cut down some forests to make pasture, and other such things. But creating a world was hard, both for gods and mortals, and in those days there was no songs to sing, no music to play, no dances to dance, and no poetry to listen to after a hard day’s work. So the gods came up with a brilliant idea: they wanted to use the leftovers of Gar’s body to brew a beer that will inspire art to make life in the world worth living. The gods knew that they would need the help of every powerful being, those who lived in the world, and those who did no...
