Lore24 Mar 2: How Gods, Spirits, and Demons Came to Differ

After Gar was dismembered, the powerful beings who took part in the creation of the world came to be known as gods (and goddesses and everything in-between). Lots of other beings saw, that the world was a nice place to live, so they made their abode in places large and small. These became known as spirits. When the gods were satisfied with their creation, they made mortals to finish the rough edges: dig tunnels for irrigation, build cities and roads, cut down some forests to make pasture, and other such things. But creating a world was hard, both for gods and mortals, and in those days there was no songs to sing, no music to play, no dances to dance, and no poetry to listen to after a hard day’s work. So the gods came up with a brilliant idea: they wanted to use the leftovers of Gar’s body to brew a beer that will inspire art to make life in the world worth living.

The gods knew that they would need the help of every powerful being, those who lived in the world, and those who did not. For twelve days and twelve nights, every being with even an ounce of supernatural power worked tirelessly on the beer, until it was finally done and ready to be put into barrels. “Let us spread this merriment we made.” said the gods “Powerful or pitiful, mortal or unaging, everyone should have a drop of it.” Some powerful beings were against the idea. “Why should we share with mortals, what we worked so hard to create? Those who did not help with this beer, should not get a drop of it.” they said. They stood guard around the beer, preventing the gods from sharing it with mortals.

The gods knew they would need to use trickery to get ahold of the beer, so they beseeched Soo-Eh, who wove a spell of sleep over those guarding the beer, the Cur-Atesh took the form of a bird, and flew in, and drank three barrels worth of beer. Of course by then, the guardians awoke, and they chased Cur-Atesh through the lands, Cur-Atesh vomiting up the beer as he went, and the clever mortals ran out and held their cups to the sky, receiving the beer, and drinking it, gaining the ability to speak, to produce art, and to receive blessings.

Of course the beings who did not want to share the beer with humans were furious. They swore that they would always oppose mortals, take away their happiness, cast down what they have built, and make their lives as hard and unforgiving as possible. These beings are called demons, and one must always be on the lookout, otherwise they might bring misfortune and tragedy down on the descendants of those, who have robbed them of their precious beer.
