2025 Jul 7: Kar-Narash, the Teeth in the Earth That Grinds Bones

Kar-Narash is one of the most feared gods of the Underworld. Just as how the souls of the most heroic and virtuous mortals are spared from wandering around the Underworld until their memories are all gone, those that have committed grave sins against the gods are thrown to Kar-Narash, who then proceeds to gnaw on them, breaking their bones over and over again, just as his saliva re-knits flesh and heals the broken bones after each bite.

According to ancient tablets kept in the royal libraries of the Bronze Elves, Kar-Narash is one of the many souls of Gar, that the gods separated from his body, and banished to the Underworld. The humans of Caeledor on the other hand believe that he has always been gnawing at the roots of the world, before he was pulled off by the legendary demigod hero Aetias, who threw him to the Underworld. Whatever his origins, he is known for his insatiable hunger and his predilection for crushing bones.

Unsurprisingly he has very few priests or temples, but on those chosen few he bestows the ability to turn into a humanoid hyena, and the power to cause the earth to rupture, swallowing everything on it, then crush what was swallowed as it returns to its former position. He also grants the power to sense treasures buried in the earth, and to set and heal broken bones with just a touch.

He is most often depicted as a circular hole in the ground with rows and rows of teeth on its sides. His sacred symbols are the fanged circle and hyenas. In fact his temples almost always house at least a few large and well-fed cave hyenas, which, upon reaching their sixths birthday are sacrificed by crushing them under a gigantic stone wheel.

Kar-Narash has no holy days, as days and nights lose their meanings underground or in the Underworld.
