Lore24 Mar 19: Pigs
Pigs used to be a valued sacrificial animal, especially in the Ippur Empire. Their eating waste and transforming it into something usable was seen as a great miracle of the gods, and the pigs were valued for it. Nowadays many think that pigs are unworthy animals, some going even as far as to refuse to eat them. With the famines, plagues and foreign invasions going on, it is clear to everyone that something has angered the gods, and many point to the humble pig. The most popular opinion is that as people have grown more sinful and arrogant, animals that eat their waste became tainted as well, so pigs became unacceptable as a sacrifice, and offering them now insults the gods. Others say that continued domestication has robbed the noble wild boar of some innate characteristic that made it especially pleasing as a sacrifice. Yet others claim that the gods are simply bored of pork. Whatever the truth, the popularity of pigs as both a sacrificial animal and livestock has sharply declined over the past few decades.
